![]() ZPD - Zone of Proximal Development - This term was coined by Vygotsky. It is the distance between the actual development level, as determined by independent problem solving & the level of potential development as determined through problem solving under adult guidance or in collaboration with more capable peers.
Attachment - The drive to seek safety, security and care through connection to a primary caregiver. As teens seek separation from their parents a 'void of attachment' forms.
Egocentric Speech - the close interaction between thought & language emerges as a consistently occurring phenomenon. A Child constantly talks to themselves maintaining a kind of running dialogue or stream of consciousness. Literacy - A definition that has changed from the ability to read and write. It now means, the ability to understand, and synthesize information that is communicated through texts. Text - This is a term that has went through a dramatic evolution within the passed decade or two. It is no longer confined to the bounds of books, but is any medium that can be used to convey knowledge/information of any sort. As shown below... Functionalist - a sect of sociologists. They believe that the basis of an orderly society is the existence of a central value system that imposes common values on all its member.
Conflict - Stresses how members of privileged groups seek to maintain advantages, while subordinate groups struggle to increase theirs Critical - Central to critical theory is an emancipatory imperative – ending social injustice and critiquing ideology, showing how repressive interests underlie ostensibly neutral formulations of science, politics, economics, and culture in general. Stereotypes - A blanketing belief about a group of people. They are dangerous, and also very had to get around. Tokenism - when a small number of culturally different individuals in a large group are focused on in order to promote diversity. Hidden Curriculum - something that is imparted to students by schools, though it is not overt in nature. |
Names
Jean Piaget - Stage Theory of Development & Constructivism. He was concerned with changes in children's thinking, and in the roots of knowledge. He was the pioneer of constructivist view learning. He believed in schemas. He believed knowledge these were a way to organize knowledge about the world. 'Learning occurs through the process of equilibrium.
He believed that there were 4 stages of Cognitive Development. Lev Vygotsky - Sociocultural theory. He believed that development is continous and it is a social activity. Children have an actual and potential level of development at all times. Presented the idea of the ZPD. It is the teachers duty to help children get through the ZPD.
Gordon Neufeld - He believes in attachment theory. 'Maturation process isn't inevitable. We can grow old without growing up' Here is a link to an interview with Gordon on the importance of attachment. |
